Goals
This module is intended to:
- give an overview of basic retirement and financial issues;
- highlight some of the factors affecting retirement security
- in particular to highlight some gender and racial disparities;
and
- sensitize students to the importance of retirement planning.
By including an interactive component which returns results
based on user input, the module is intended to personalize the
issues and provoke thoughtful exploration of further resources.
Target Audience
The target audience for this module is post-secondary students
and/or professionals who are learning about aging and gerontology.
Structure
The module steps through a series of information. The initial
pages provide a demographic overview, and the subsequent pages
interactively return results based on the user input. Links
and references to further resources are provided at the end.
Scope
This module is about general financial issues in retirement.
It is not a financial planning tool, nor is it intended to give
specific or individualized financial recommendations. Instead,
it uses averaged data to highlight the relevant issues for consideration.
Instructor Information
All of the modules in IOA Learning were planned as self-paced
learning activities that could be incorporated into instructional
settings in different ways:
- as an out-of class reading assignment;
- as a distance learning experience;
- as an in-class activity -- the module provides thought-provoking
questions and activities that can stimulate a group discussion.
Feel free to link to any or all of the modules. We would be
happy to hear your feedback
and suggestions.
