
Trained in counseling and public health, Ms. Hunter began her career as a clinician in mental health and subsequently assumed various leadership roles at the University for research and education in aging, rural health, and community program development. She is affiliated with the Healthy Aging Research Network (HAN), a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funded initiative at nine academic centers. As part of the HAN, she leads UNC's involvement in studies of physical activity programs and of environmental factors affecting the mobility and community engagement of older adults. She is also engaged in HAN's cognitive health research initiative. Ms. Hunter has developed community-campus partnerships with several North Carolina communities for collaboration in research, community service and training. Among the current partnerships is one active since 2000 with the community of Hendersonville where the focus is promotion of healthy aging.
