Brief Bio

Bonita L. Marks, PhD, FACSM, ACSM-CES is an Associate Professor in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science (Exercise Physiology) at UNC-Chapel Hill. She holds Adjunct Associate Professor positions in the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Department of Allied Health Sciences, both within UNC’s School of Medicine, and is on the doctoral faculty for the Human Movement Sciences Program. Dr. Marks received a junior investigator award from the New York Academy of Sciences, GE and AFAR, for her post-doctoral research investigating the role of aerobic exercise on brain structure at Duke University’s Center for Aging. Her neurobiology research, funded by UNC’s School of Medicine’s Biomedical Research Imaging Center, has been published in the Annals of the NY Academy of Science, Neurobiology of Aging Journal, American Journal of Neuroradiology, the Gerontologist, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, and the Physician and Sports Medicine Journal. Dr. Marks also completed falls risk assessment research funded by the Institute on Aging and presented her findings at the 2009 “Aging In America” ASA-NCOA Conference” held in Las Vegas.
