Brief Bio

Kathleen Mullan Harris is Gillian T. Cell Distinguished Professor of Sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Faculty Fellow at the Carolina Population Center. Her research interests are in the areas of family, poverty and social policy. Dr. Harris is PI and Director of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health), an NIH-funded longitudinal study of more than 20,000 adolescents in 1995 who have been followed from adolescence through their transition to adulthood. Dr. Harris is conducting a fourth followup wave of Add Health to study social, behavioral, and biological linkages in developmental and health trajectories from adolescence into young adulthood. Dr. Harris plans to develop Add Health into an aging study, following the cohort throughout adulthood and into old age. With Add Health data Dr. Harris has examined the health of children in immigrant families, health disparities in the transition to adulthood, and non-martial childbearing.
