Brief Bio

Joanne Gard Marshall is Alumni Distinguished Professor in the School of Information and Library Science (SILS) and a Senior Research Scientist at the UNC Institute on Aging (IOA). She is PI on three aging-related grants that are co-sponsored by SILS and IOA. Workforce Issues in Library and Information Science I is a study of careers of library and information science (LIS) graduates from six NC programs since 1964. WILIS II is a follow up grant to modify the WILIS 1 survey instrument and methodology for use in a national career tracking instrument. Both studies are funded by the Institute of Museum and LIbrary Services. The third study is an evaluation of a national initiative knows as Lifelong Access LIbraries. This initiative of Libraries for the Future, funded by Atlantic Philanthropies, is exploring the role of public libraries in supporting the civic engagement of older adults.
