Brief Bio

Dr. Mary Altpeter is an Interim Co-Director, Senior Research Scientist, and Director of Healthy Aging Initiatives at the UNC Institute on Aging. She is the Principal Investigator of the CDC-funded NC Healthy Aging Network and Co-Investigator of the CDC-Funded Walk With Ease grant and co-investigator of the AoA-funded Alzheimer's Disease Innovation grant. She has contracts with the National Council on Aging, the Administration on Aging, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the UNC Carolina Geriatric Education Center and the UCLA California Geriatric Education Center to promote training and technical assistance on health promotion and aging programming or evaluation. She is also an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Health Behavior and Health Education of the UNC School of Public and Health, a mentor in the IOA Carolina Program on Health and Aging Research training grant, and a member of the faculty advisory board for the Graduate Certificate in Aging.
